The Awesome as represented in MWLL is based off of the AWS-9M model introduced in 3049, just prior to the Clan Invasion. Featuring an upgraded XL engine and double heat sinks, the 9M was faster than the original 8Q model and replaced the original armament with three ERPPCs, two Streak SRM2s, a Medium Pulse Laser and a Small Pulse Laser. Also my love for the Awesome 8Q is infinite. Shame it kind of blew chunks back when I played MWO and in Battletech you rarely see them and they're quickly overclassed. They dont suffer as much from that "intermediate tier weight " like other mechs on the border between classes/initiatives because they do have a lot of tonnage dedicated to weapons. I've never really been found of Streak-2s. The ammo being in the leg is just a kill waiting to happen. I like the extra speed, however you could have an 8Q that goes 4/6 without the XL engine simply by removing some of those shiny toys and reducing the heat sinks. PPCs just seem like the worst weapon in the game. Terrible heat to damage ratio. I may throw one +10 damage on it. But even large lasers (don't have any good ones) are kind of garbage. So maybe 1 PPC++, 1 large laser and 5 mediums? Seems super underwhelming for an 80 ton assault mech... what is that 215 alpha strike? That said, I use an 8Q with 2xPPCs and 4MLs. Finding rare PPC variants is pretty easy, so consequently I have two PPCs with +30 stb damage.
